Author Bio

On slow, snowy days in her Colorado home, Meira Pentermann enjoys cozying up on the couch with a novel. Naturally, snow is not a requirement; neither is the couch. In fact, she sees no reason not to indulge in reading three-hundred-and-sixty-five days a year. Apocalyptic science fiction, mysteries, and young adult titles top her Kindle list, but legal thrillers and chik-lit make an appearance now and then.

When not absorbed in writing or reading, Meira enjoys life’s little moments with her family – the love and devotion of her black lab, the quiet wisdom of her artistic twenty-one-year-old, the trials and triumphs of her petite sixth grader, and the unlimited encouragement offered by her Dutch husband.

Meira strives to write stories that deliver the unexpected. She prefers down-to-earth characters that look and behave like regular folks. The prom queen and Adonis take a backseat to reclusive, soul-searching heroines and quirky, introverted gentlemen.

My review:

I enjoyed this book very much and it made me cry on several occasions. One of the things that I appreciated most is that Meira doesn't make a spectacle out of the paranormal aspect of her novel, but gently eases you into the story and pulls you forward to discover more about the mysterious firefly and the person behind it.

I couldn't believe how attached I became to that little marble of light. Meira creates wonderful, lively characters with just enough background story to make them pop out of the pages. Of all the characters I admit that I felt the weakest connection to Beth. At the beginning she is an emotional wreckage who has created a wall around herself (and within herself). She doesn't allow anyone in. I felt detached in the beginning, but as the story unfolds and Beth comes to terms with some demons from her past, I grew to love her as well, and felt a lot of sympathy for her when all the emotions she keeps inside finally come washing over her.

The first half of the book is somewhat slower as we're introduced to Beth, her immediate past and her new surroundings. In the second half of the book the story quickly picks up pace. I was glued to the screen and couldn't wait to find out what happened to the girl whose diary Beth finds on a secluded beach. I don't want to give away too much, I'll just say that it's a tragic story of broken family ties and misunderstanding and fate and finding hope at the end of  a long and dark tunnel.

If you enjoy cozy mysteries, you should read Firefly Beach. It's equal parts exciting and heartbreaking and makes for a quick, but very emotional and enjoyable read.

Convinced? Here's your chance to read Firefly Beach!
