Review: A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest

Interesting vampire story, but not properly developed.

Review: Shadows of the Past by Carmen Stefanescu

I loved the story. The characters, not so much.

Review: The Boys of Summer by CJ Duggan

A cute YA contemporary beach read.

Review: Strength by Carrie Butler

The world needs more Wallace. Swoon.

Review: Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

Amazing worldbuilding, if a tad predictable plot.

Some nice news

I have received one more award! The lovely J.Kaye has adorned me with this sweet award. Instead of passing it on to individual bloggers, I want to give it to everyone who visits my blog and reads this post. Because I love you guys.

And, hey, I've just reached 50 followers! How amazing is that? Thank you, every single one of you wonderful people! I know this calls for a celebration, but please forgive me if I'm not holding a contest. At this moment, I simply can't afford it. I'll come up with something soon to show you how much I appreciate you.

Cuddles and kisses from

Awards, awards...

I have received two awards these days. It's such a nice feeling when someone deems you worthy of these. These two come from two great women and bloggers whose blogs I visit regularly. So here they are:

The Happy 101 Award comes from Nadine. Nadine is a self-published author of the wonderful Kathryn's Beach trilogy, which I had the pleasure of reading and reviewing (and now translating!). Her support and encouragement toward novice writers, and enthusiasm and passion for writing serve as a perpetual source of inspiration to me. Please, visit her at First Draft.

The rules are:
1. List 10 things that make you happy. (only ten?)

1. when my son hugs me and asks for a kiss
2. returning home on weekends

3. books in the mail
4. books bought and books borrowed as well
5. a nice cup of coffee, especially while I'm...
6. writing and
7. reading and
8. blogging
9. sunlight
10. my friends (real ones and people I met online)

2. Try to do at least one thing on the list today.
3. List 10 bloggers who brighten your day.

The Eager Readers
Pure Imagination
Peeking Between the Pages
My Fluttering Heart
My 5 Monkeys
Lakeside Musing
Bookalicious Ramblings

4. Those of you to whom I give this award are to link back to my blog and perpetuate the happy with your own lists and recipients and whatnot.

The Honest Scrap Award comes from JoAnne at Lakeside Musing. JoAnne is probably the nicest blogger out there. She's a regular visitor of Willing to See Less and one of the rare that always replies to every single comment on her posts. It's an honor to receive this award from her. Please, visit her blog and say Hi!
In order to receive this award, I'm supposed to list ten honest things about myself and then pass it on to ten other bloggers.

So, ten honest things about me (so many???):
  1. I sometimes dog-ear my books
  2. I'm the master of procrastination when it comes to...well, basically everything
  3. I judge books by their covers too often
  4. I don't like people who leave their stuff all over the place (seriously, how much effort does it take to pick up your coffee mug and put it in the sink???)
  5. I never wear high heels and skirts
  6. I love ironing
  7. I don't have a license and I can't drive
  8. I wanted to be a vet until I saw the process of  castrating a pig
  9. I forget a joke as soon as I hear it, no matter how funny it was at the moment
  10. I used to play a nun in high school plays. They said I was born for such roles.
See? I told ya there was nothing interesting about me!

Passing this award on to:

Some of these blogs I discovered recently, some are old friends. Please, do visit them, all of them are special in their own beautiful way!

    Fabulous Blog Award!

My dear friend and writing mentor Nadine Laman from First Draft has awarded me with this wonderful award.

The "Your Blog is Fabulous!" Award stands for: Integrity.
    Commitment to Excellence.
    Stubbornly Optimistic!

    The Rules:
    List five current obsessions:

    • Books. I love to read them, review them and (doing my best to) write them.
    • Blogging about books. Obviously. It’s wonderful to see how large the reading/writing community is. There are so many wonderful people out there and once you start exploring their blogs, you realize it’s a never-ending journey.
    • My studies, English and German alike. I have never enjoyed my college so much as I do now. Aside from being my ticket to a better future, it’s truly fulfilling my need for self-development and expanding my horizons.
    • My Little Hobbit. He’s turning two in a week. We have established a whole new level of communication since it’s just the two of us (partially because he talks more!). It’s wonderful to watch how with every day he grows and gains new interests. He’s the greatest kid in the whole world. Well, he’s got to be-he’s mine.
    • Music. It’s hard enough to turn it off when I have to study, but otherwise, it’s constantly playing either in my earphones or my computer.
I’m passing this award on to:

JoAnn at the Lakeside Musing. I love her book reviews, her choice of books makes my TBR list grow to a frightening height.
Dar at Peeking Between the Pages. She’s doing a great job when it comes to reading all these wonderful books and regularly posting about them. I envy you, Dar!
Rachy at Parajunkee’s View. A blog I discovered recently, mainly on YA paranormal novels, my secret addiction.
The Book Whisperer. Also a great blog on YA literature that I found on Book Blogs few days ago.

If you haven’t already, go and check them out!

    My first award!

I received my first blog award! Thank you so much, JoAnne, for the award and your beautiful comments alike! In order to receive the award, I need to list seven of my favorite things. Here’s my list:

    1. My son. Little G. is turning two in September. My heart melts when he wakes me up in the morning with a small kiss, whispering Mama into my ear. Being a single mom at the age of 22 is extremely difficult-but when I see my little angel happy, healthy and bright, I know I’ve done something right in my life!

    2. Reading. Re-discovered in college. For four high school years of reading-because-I-have-to, I am now reading-because-I-want-to again!

    3. Writting. Also re-discovered lately on a new level. My oblivion and my way to deal with sad things.

    4. Music. Rock of any sort, genre, era. Foo Fighters, Aerosmith, Evanescence, Seether, Judas Priest…you name it!

    5. Coffee. I’m not going to reveal how much coffee I drink. It’s suicidal.

    6. College. I’m at the second year of English-German Language and Literature, aiming for my Bachelor’s degree this time next year, afterwards MA in English translation. Already see myself as a translator of literary texts, not boring legal stuff. It means a lot to me; I’ve passed so many obstacles to be where I am now and I’m proud of it.

    7. The countryside. Though Croatia is famous for the beautiful Adria See, I’m from the continental part. I’m surrounded with fields of rye and sunflowers, wonderfully changing colors as the seasons change.

I’m passing this award on to:

Nadine from First Draft-thank you for your support, inspiration and guidance! Please, make sure to check out her web site and her blog. She is an awesome writer whose story to publication is truly worth admiring!

Ella from The Clock Monkey. Ella is a wonderfully creative Argentinean girl and an expert on YA novels. Her stories are great too. Though I read less YA than before, old habits don’t change easily. The Clock Monkey is the ultimate source for great new novels, book blogs and creative ideas.

Katie from 101 books in 1001 Day. A blog I discovered recently on The Sunday Salon. Katie and I seem to think on the same wavelength when it comes to books!

Once again-thank you, JoAnn! Enjoy your vacation! Italy is worth it, particularly Venice! Been there!
